Water and Sanitation for Rural Ghana
Just here in Upper East Ghana over 200 small communities, almost 100,000 men, women and children are in water Poverty
BONDO has replaced hand pump systems in 58 Communities, provided WATSAN health education.New boreholes have been drilled and equipped with hand pumps in six Communities, and in six Schools. Of these Bongo SHS has had three boreholes drilled of which two are mechanised with electric pumping and water tank storage. Overall, this has brought potable water to 18,000 members of rural communities and 4,000 students.
BONDO has also worked with households in the Region and funded the construction of 150 household latrines in order to reduce the prevalence of disease transmitted by the practice of open defecation.
The Bristol office of DNV GL funded the drilling of a borehole hand pump at Bongo Township in Bongo District. Bondo carried out site location, community meetings, location of drilling company and negotiation, execution and lining of borehole, water test, replacement of broken hand pump, concrete pad construction and training of Water and Sanitation (Watsan) committees. Thank you DNV GL!

Scottish Episcopal Churches provide water to Agubre town
St Peters & St Columba's in Linlithgow & Bathgate fund borehole pump
BONDO has repaired the non-functioning borehole in the community of Agubre, in Upper East Ghana. An old pump there had failed, it took hours to pump any water and it was busy from dawn to 10pm with women and children queuing up.
The village requested BONDO to provide a Clean Water Program from funds kindly provided by St Peter's Episcopal Church Linlithgow and St Columba's Episcopal Church Bathgate.
BONDO has developed a systematic an efficient process for delivery and long term sustainability, and local ownership of each borehole & hand pump, which was employed here.
Bondo has repaired boreholes in 4 villages in Bongo, namely Samboligo, Kodurogo, Akafoe Feo, Amanga
These village boreholes have failed - typically the flow is very small and inadequate. The villages do not have the resources to repair them.
The key problems are too much time is spent drawing water – these activities result in school children coming to school late and therefore missing education opportunities. Also the security of women is at stake as so much time is spent there even after dark.

The Dua Kansigo Community celebrate the borehole
The old boreholes had failed - typically the flow becomes very small and inadequate. The villagers and school children then spend too much time drawing water; children therefore miss time in education. The security of women is at stake as so much time is spent there even after dark. This is the community gathered at the repaired pump saying thank you!
